As a computer technician for 15+ years, I’ve seen my fair share of computer issues, but nothing quite compares to the amount of problems coming from two particular online Gaming PC retailers:
iBUYPOWER and CyberPowerPC.
The problem with iBuyPower & Cyberpower PCs
Over the past few months, I’ve had dozens of customers walk into my shop with their gaming rigs from these two retailers. Each one with the same critical issue: cheap, faulty power supplies.
Don’t just take my word for it, hundreds of others are having the same exact problem all over the country:

It’s sad to see the disappointment on a customer’s face when they realize their gaming PC isn’t performing the way it should.
Gaming PCs can be a steep investment and cost upwards of $800-$3000.
Yet, from these 2 retailers, they arrive with cheap, unstable power supplies that can’t handle the load — leading to crashes, instability, and in some cases, complete system failure. In some cases, the power supply could start a house fire.
Each story from the customers are almost identical. They excitedly unbox their new PCs, excited to dive into their favorite games, only to be met with blue screens, sudden shutdowns, and an overall sense of disappointment and frustration. When they reach out to the retailer for support, they’re often met with long wait times and insufficient solutions, leaving them no choice but to seek help from a professional.
How to fix your Gaming PC from iBuyPower & CyberpowerPC
At my workshop, diagnosing the issue has become almost routine. The power supplies are either underpowered for the system’s requirements or of such poor quality that they fail under normal use.
Replacing these faulty units with reliable, high-quality power supplies (like gold or platinum rated PSUs) resolves the issues almost immediately, but it’s an extra cost and inconvenience for the customers that shouldn’t have to replace the Power supply to begin with.
Hundreds of gamers, from casual players to serious enthusiasts, are left with a PC that isn’t functional.
These 2 retailers are no longer reliable and the reputation of gaming PCs, in general, takes a hit.
As a technician, my priority is always to get my customers back up and running as quickly as possible, but I can’t help but feel for those who have been let down by these companies.
Buying a pre-built gaming PC should be a fun experience, not one full of technical issues and additional costs.
If you’re considering a purchase from these companies, please be careful. Do your research, read recent reviews, and consider the risks with these companies.

Where to get a reliable gaming PC you can trust
If you’re interested in getting a Gaming PC, and want to avoid the risks with these retailers, we build custom PCs with reliable, tested parts, and we never cut corners.
Cutting corners and cheaping out on a power supply is like saying, “I’m going to race in a 2024 Ford Mustang, but replace the engine with a 4-horse power motor from a lawn mower… because It’ll be cheaper.” It just simply will not work. Not for long at least.
